Arizona is home to roughly 800,000 unpaid or informal caregivers who provide support to people living with dementia, those with physical or developmental disabilities, and veterans. Now, a strategic plan has been designed to support this growing population of care partners.

It’s called the Arizona Family Caregiver Action Plan. And it’s the work of a coalition of agencies and organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association Desert Southwest Chapter. Tory Roberg is the director of Government Affairs there.

"Well, the plan is ambitious. One of the things that we've identified as very important is to ensure that there's a centralized hub for caregiving resources."

And the hub would be available in multiple languages with resources based on where you live in the state.

"Finding resources can be difficult. There are state resources that folks may not know about when it comes to caregiving or modifications for houses or respite services."

Caregivers often experience financial hurdles, face mental and physical health challenges or lack access to caregiver training.
