The Health Resources and Services Administration announced nearly $52 million in grants to help boost care for formerly incarcerated people reentering the community.
Two health centers in Arizona are among the grant recipients.
More than $1.7 million will be distributed between two health centers in Arizona, one in Phoenix and the other in Nogales.
According to HRSA, up to 80% of people released from incarceration suffer from “chronic medical, psychiatric, or substance–use conditions.”
The HRSA’s goal is to “increase access to high-quality primary care for people soon to be released from incarceration and those reentering the community.”
The HRSA says the Maricopa County Special Health Care District will receive $999,831, and the Mariposa Community Health Center Inc. will receive $777,258.
All recipient centers will also provide case management services and help address related social needs with community partners.
