The U.S. Forest Service says it will close a bald eagle breeding area in the Prescott National Forest this weekend. The closure will continue through June 30 unless there are plans to reopen early.

The closure comes to reduce human disturbances affecting the animals. The U.S. Forest Service says such disturbances may result in eagles abandoning their eggs and losing their young.

The Forest Service says the closure area is south of Camp Verde. The Arizona Game and FIsh Department will monitor eagle activities.

Recreational activities like hunting, fishing and hiking are prohibited.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department recently said the bald eagle population in Arizona had grown to its largest ever documented size with 90 pairs in breeding locations across the state.
