The Thanksgiving holiday has already ended. Many families may still hold onto food scraps. However, the Arizona Humane Society warns the public about feeding those scraps to their pets.

Thanksgiving food carries ingredients that create hazards.

Jennifer Armbruster is with the Arizona Humane Society.

“When that turkey gets cooked in the oven, there’s butter, seasoning, garlic that could be toxic to our pets," she said.

Armbruster also advises against feeding desserts, including those with artificial sweeteners or chocolate.

However, she also says some foods can be given to pets. These include plain turkey and a cored apple covered in peanut butter.
