The Arizona Game and Fish Department has confirmed two cases of avian flu in birds at a Scottsdale park.
Workers at Chaparral Park found a free-ranging domestic goose and a Canada goose who were both ill.
Game and Fish spokesperson Michael Colaianni said they have a strain of the flu that’s been circulating around the country and has caused the death of a number of wild birds.
“We want folks to know that it exists in the area, but that birds with avian influenza are not considered a health risk for people under normal circumstances," Colaianni said.
If anyone sees a sick wild bird, they should call Arizona Game and Fish Department. For sick domesticated birds, they should call the Arizona Department of Agriculture. People are advised not to touch either one.
