Renovations to Kiwanis Park in the unincorporated New River community are scheduled to begin this March.

Maricopa County’s Board of Supervisors recently earmarked $500,000 to upgrade the play area.

Some additions are intended to make the 80-acre park’s playground more accessible, including a communication board, sensory wall and smooth paths for mobility devices.

The new play structure will be made from recycled materials, with an adult fitness area and shaded seating nearby.

Input from residents and the Kiwanis Club, which manages the park, influenced the project to reflect the growing community.

Park president Charlie Fisher said in a statement that it has heavily relied on volunteer efforts, making the investment a huge step forward in its development.

Improvements are expected to be complete by May of next year.
