Animal shelters in California transferred several pets to Arizona as a result of the effects of the Los Angeles wildfires. The Arizona Humane Society received 21 dogs.
Petco Love and Wings of Rescue helped with transportation to Arizona. The transfer helps free up room at California shelters for other animals.
Kelsey Dickerson is a spokesperson for the Arizona Humane Society.
“So this is allowing the shelters there to be able to make more space for the pets that are displaced by those wildfires, whether they're homeless pets or whether they're owned pets. But these pets that we brought in were already available for adoption at the shelter and looking for their forever homes there," said Kelsey Dickerson, a spokesperson for the Arizona Humane Society.
Dickerson says the events that took place show how animal welfare organizations and people can make a difference.
“So our team is definitely very well versed in situations like this. And we told them if there is anything that we can do for you guys to help, please let us know. And we got the call and things got rolling pretty quickly to be able to bring these pets in," she said.
Those who want to adopt a pet can visit the Arizona Humane Society website.
