Attorneys for the family of an unarmed man shot and killed by Glendale police in early January in a case of mistaken identity are calling on investigators to release all video of the incident.

A Glendale police spokesperson says records aren’t released until investigations are done, which typically takes six to 12 months months.

Glendale police found the parked truck of a domestic violence suspect they were looking for, but tinted windows kept them from seeing he was inside and had shot himself.

Then officers saw Dillon Siebeck sitting nearby at a park gazebo.

Siebeck was told to put his hands up.

Police shot him, saying he made a movement toward his waistband.

Attorney Glen Lerner represents Siebeck’s family.

“Obviously if there were issues, de-escalation techniques could have been used rather than deadly force. Therefore, we’re seeking the release of body camera video. And we just want to see the truth,” said Glen Lerner, an attorney representing Siebeck’s family.

Two reviews of the shooting are in progress.

Peoria police are the lead agency for the case, while Glendale police do their own internal investigation.

Lerner said Siebeck was 46-years old — twice the age of the suspect.

“That he’s reaching for his waistband, allegedly, that’s not an imminent threat of danger when he wasn’t even identified as being the suspect,” Lerner said.
