The city of Scottsdale will start using a new messaging system for public events and emergency notifications next week during the Phoenix Open.

The RAVE Alert System will be used for severe weather, public safety concerns, evacuations, missing persons and special events. There will also be an option for Phoenix Open communications.

In a statement, the city said users will be able to customize which messages they receive, and whether they get them through text, email or voice messages.

Residents can register at the Arizona Department of Administration az911.gov/rave-citizen-info-registration.
