Planned Parenthood could resume abortions after 15 weeks in Arizona in the coming days

Planned Parenthood is potentially days away from providing abortions beyond 15 weeks. That’s because no one has defended the state law setting that 15-week limit in court.

Planned Parenthood pointed that out in a new legal filing to a Maricopa County judge.

Voters approved a measure in November which guarantees the right in the Arizona Constitution to terminate a pregnancy up to the point of fetal viability, generally considered to be around 24 weeks.

Planned Parenthood has noted the initiative did not void the 15 week law passed by the Legislature and said it would not provide abortion services beyond that point until there was a clear ruling.

The organization filed suit, and Attorney General Kris Mayes has decided not to defend the 15 week law as she agrees with the family planning provider.
