An animal rights organization is celebrating the announcement of the cancellation of the Tucson Bull Run. The planners cited insurance as the reason for the temporary cancellation.
The annual Running of the Bulls event in Pamplona, Spain, is known around the world. A similar event is coming to Arizona.
The Cinco de Mayo Bull Run Festival will be held at Old Tucson Studios in early May. The festival includes a quarter-mile run with 12 bulls chasing participants ages 18 and older.
Chad Merwin is the event coordinator and says all runners will have to sign on the dotted line.
"You need to have the waiver signed and we’re gonna be sure that there’s not any alcohol abuse or anything along those lines. We wanna make sure that you protect yourself as you take off," Merwin said.
The Bull Run Festival says it has held six similar events in Arizona and Nevada over the last three decades.
