Chandler is hosting a free screening of an award-winning documentary on autism at the Chandler Center for the Arts.
The film, “In a Different Key”, follows a mother who tracks down the first person ever diagnosed with autism to learn if his life holds promise for her son, also diagnosed with autism. Her journey to rural Mississippi and beyond exposes cruelty and kindness.
Sunday’s screening is a collaboration between Chandler’s diversity, equity and inclusion division and the city’s police and community services department. Doors open at 1 p.m. for the public to engage with several local organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families.
The documentary will be shown at 2 p.m., followed by a panel discussion with a student with autism, a neurologist, a police officer, a firefighter and a recreation specialist.
Due to sensitive content, the film is recommended for people 15 and older. Space is limited and registration is required at www.chandleraz.gov/DifferentKey.
