Travelers looking to board flights soon reminded of Real ID requirement deadline on May 7

If you’re looking to fly in the next couple months, you’ll want to make sure you carry a Real ID. Travelers will need this identification to get through TSA.

The federal government says the identification needs to be obtained by May 7. Not doing so would prevent travelers from boarding flights and accessing federal facilities.

ADOT spokesperson Bill Lamoreaux says there are a few ways people can get the ID.

“So people can walk into their MVD office, wherever it happens to be. There are third party locations, authorized third party locations that actually can help as well if they want to do it like on the weekend, Saturdays," he said.

He also says appointments can be made online via the state’s motor vehicle division website.

Before going in, Lamoreaux says people should take important documentation, including a valid U.S. passport or birth certificate, Social Security number and two pieces of mail with a name and a current address.
