WNBA star Diana Taurasi announced her retirement last month after a two-decade career with the Phoenix Mercury. Taurasi, who says she doesn’t like to openly express her emotions, told the media Thursday she was sad about her decision to leave.

"I don’t like to outwardly show my sadness, but I am sad. You know, it’s the game that I’ve played since I was seven. It’s all the thing that in life I loved to do, and that was play the game of basketball," she said.

Taurasi says since announcing her retirement, she’s reflecting on what 20 years felt like and the things she was able to be a part of.

She will be inducted into the Ring of Honor next summer, where her number will hang in the Phoenix Arena, home of the Phoenix Mercury.
