The city of Scottsdale plans to honor veterans and recognize the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. Officials from the Scottsdale Veterans Advisory Commission will host a free community event at the Scottsdale Civic Center East Bowl on March 29.

The city of Scottsdale has previously organized such events to commemorate Vietnam vets. The occasion recognizes those who served even during a time of tumultuous attitudes towards military service.

Kelly Corsette serves as staff liaison to the city’s Veterans Advisory Committee.

“This is really for them. Many of them were drafted. They didn't have a choice about serving. Many of them volunteered. They all served with honor and did their duty,” he said.

The event will feature an actual helicopter used during the war and Vietnam veteran Frank Lambert, who served with the 1st Air Cavalry Division.

Corsette says there will be other veterans who share in the experiences of Lambert.

Those looking to attend the event must register online at the Old Town Scottsdale website.
