Temperatures in Phoenix this week will likely break records and the city could even reach 100 degrees earlier in spring than it ever has before.
Meteorologist Isaac Smith with the National Weather Service said this week’s forecast is very unusual for March.
“We’re going to be seeing temperatures upwards of 15 to 20 degrees above normal,” Smith said. “We’re going to be looking at highs approaching 100 degrees potentially in a few areas by Tuesday.”
If Tuesday’s temperature does hit the century mark, it would be the earliest 100-degree day in Phoenix history. The current record was one day later — March 26 — all the way back in 1988.
On average, Phoenix typically doesn’t reach the triple digits until early May.
But heat records have been falling quickly in the last few years. 2024 was Phoenix’s hottest year on record. And record heat has continued into 2025. Last month tied the record for Phoenix’s hottest February ever.
Temperatures should drop back into the 80s by Friday in Phoenix. But the National Weather Service says above-normal temperatures are likely to continue across most of the Southwest throughout spring and summer.
Another day of record breaking heat is expected with highs approaching the century mark in the lower deserts. If we reach the forecast high of 100 degrees in Phoenix, it would be the earliest occurrence on record. Temps will slowly cool through the rest of this week. #azwx #cawx pic.twitter.com/VswWM7sZRZ
