Phoenix and Valley Metro say the latest rail extension project will go into operation in early June. The newest line goes from downtown Phoenix all the way to Baseline Road.
City officials say the expansion addresses critical transportation needs in an area where people may not have access to personal vehicles.
Financial support for the extension comes from the voter-approved Phoenix Transportation 2050 initiative, which provides investments to transit improvements, and from Proposition 400 funds, a transportation sales tax initiative.
