An Arkansas family is suing Airbnb and a Scottsdale homeowner after finding a hidden video camera in the home they rented last year.

The lawsuit details how one family member discovered a video camera disguised as a smoke alarm in the home’s primary bedroom. The discovery led to concerns that the secret recordings could have captured private moments.

Joseph Brown from Accident Law Group is representing the family.

“We're going forward, we're going after the homeowners, we're going after Airbnb. My clients have endured a lot as a result of this invasion of their privacy, you know, and that's where we're going to keep pushing forward,” he said.

An Airbnb spokesperson reiterated its policy of hidden cameras being banned and says it will assist Scottsdale police with their investigation, which is ongoing. Police are also looking for victims who possibly did not know they were being recorded to come forward.

The department cited the homeowner for failing to have a vacation rental license and for not responding to an emergency.
