Valley Metro is holding public meetings on two light rail extension projects that would service the Arizona State Capitol area and connect to the West Valley.

The meetings will take place May 3 and May 8 at the Neighborhood Ministries near Fillmore Street and 20th Avenue in Phoenix.

The Capitol Extension project seeks to connect the existing rail system in downtown Phoenix to the Capitol. The I-10 West Extension project will allow for the light rail to travel in the Interstate 10 median and go toward the Desert Sky Transit Center in west Phoenix.

Valley Metro spokesperson Juliana Vasquez-Keating says people can actively participate in the meetings.

“Towards the end, they can come to the microphone, ask questions. But, also, we have that period of time where people can look at the boards and talk directly to our project team and I think that’s so valuable, is you get to get that one-on-one time with the project team," he said.

Vasquez-Keating also says attendees will help in the process.

“I would just encourage our community to try and attend one of these public meetings because community input is so vital, especially in these early stages of the design process. And if you can't make that meeting, go to our website, valleymetro.org/CAPEX or valleymetro.org/10WEST and provide input there," she said.

Those unable to attend the two sessions can still provide feedback online through the Valley Metro website.
