Cave Creek announced that Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect through Oct. 1 due to high risk of wildfires. This bans spark-generating activities outdoors unless specifically permitted.
Will Brewer, a local wildland specialist, says this is an unusually long restriction period.
"Our biggest issue coming into 2025 is not necessarily extreme temperatures yet, but it’s the fact that we have a lot of fuel out there and that fuel is very dry," Brewer said.
Fuel refers to grasses, bushes and other very flammable plant life. He says restrictions are subject to change if the monsoon produces enough moisture.
Brewer recommends firewise.org to help prepare for wildfire season.
