Phoenix Public Libraries are offering a new way to check out books and other materials starting Monday.

At 16 Phoenix library branches, new lockers have now been installed outside the buildings.

Phoenix Public Library spokesperson Lee Franklin said the lockers will provide library cardholders with a new option when they’re placing items on hold.

“Now you will be able to select if you want to pick it up inside on the holds shelf, or if you want to have it waiting for you in a holds locker,” Franklin said.

If you opt to have items held in a locker, you can stop by at any time of day — whether the library is open or not — and use your library card and a password to access your materials.

Franklin said you can have your items delivered to whichever holds locker is most convenient for you, even if the book you are looking for is on the shelf at another library branch.

“We’re really excited to offer this enhancement to our services,” Franklin said.
