Inside the Adora Trails neighborhood in Gilbert, where residents say free-range cattle are creating safety issues.

A Gilbert neighborhood may finally be getting relief from some unexpected four-legged visitors. Here's what’s keeping the cows out — for now.

Cattle from the nearby Gila River Indian Community were damaging lawns and blocking traffic in the Adora Trails neighborhood.

Open range laws meant town officials couldn’t do much, so residents built a wrought iron fence.

Susan Borea lives in the community and spoke at a Gilbert city council meeting about the movement.

“The cattle are still trying to get into Club Adora Trails, and are either muscling their way through the barbed wire fence, or jumping over it, believe it or not,” she said.

Borea says the south side is mostly secure, but the west end still sees the occasional intruder. She thanked the town and police for taking the issue seriously — and for their cow-wrangling skills.
