Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes says the Social Security Administration is failing Arizonans. She’s now calling on the agency to address what she describes as “widespread failures.”
In a letter to the Social Security Administration’s commissioner, Mayes detailed a range of issues, including the lack of in-person assistance at field offices, disruptions to phone and online services and service delays caused by staffing cuts.
Her office has received hundreds of reports since March, including 91 from individuals who did not receive their expected benefits, while others experienced delayed payments. At least four people were incorrectly listed as deceased.
According to AARP Arizona, 46% of residents aged 65 and older depend on Social Security for at least half of their income.
