Singer-songwriter Billy Joel has canceled his upcoming tour after revealing he has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, or NPH. It’s a condition that causes fluid buildup on the brain and is more common in people over 65.

Dr. Justin Hoskin is the director of the NPH Program at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.

"The first symptom is walking and balance impairment. The second symptom is difficulty controlling your urine or bladder and the third symptom is changes with memory and thinking," Hoskin said.

Hoskin says if diagnosed early, symptoms can often improve significantly. One treatment involves placing a shunt in the brain to drain excess fluid.
