Phoenix’s former interim police chief has a new job in Washington, D.C.
Former Police Chief Michael Sullivan will be sworn in as the next chief of the U.S. Capitol Police on June 30.
In a statement, the Capitol Police said it is confident of his “experience, leadership, and approach in protecting the Congress as an institution to ensure the legislative process is unimpeded.”
Sullivan was Phoenix's interim chief from 2022 until April. He led the Phoenix Police Department through a Department of Justice pattern and practice investigation.
He was one of four finalists for the permanent job of Phoenix police chief. Sullivan, however, faced pushback — including from police unions — and withdrew his name from the running.
