Federal prosecutors in Arizona say prison sentences were recently handed down to men in separate cases who threatened and killed tribal law enforcement officers.

Carlos Galvan pleaded guilty to murder.

Prosecutors say Galvan crashed his vehicle near the entrance to a casino in Why, Arizona, then stole the cruiser of a responding Tohono O’odham police officer and ran over the officer.

Galvan is to spend 44 years in prison.

In the other case, a federal judge gave Malachi Reed two years in prison.

Reed pleaded guilty in connection with threats to kill a detective for the police department of the Gila River Indian Community.

Prosecutors say a juvenile from there who was reported missing was later found with Reed.
