With more electric bikes, e-scooters and motorized bicycles on city streets, Phoenix police are reminding users about the rules of the road.
For example, the legal age to operate e-bikes and scooters is 16 years old. Motorized bikes are subject to the same laws as motorcycles and riding on the sidewalk is prohibited.
“We want to harp on safety. Being out in the street, make sure that you know the laws and regulations while you’re on the street. And also, be safe while you’re riding — being aware of pedestrians, yielding to pedestrians, yielding to vehicles and knowing the laws because you do have to follow bike laws while on the street," said Officer Danica Tatge with the Phoenix Police Department’s traffic bureau.
Tatge says collisions involving these modes of transportation are increasing, with reports of serious injury and even death.
