Phoenix has unveiled a trio of finalists to become permanent police chief.
The department has been under interim leadership since 2022.
The list includes longtime local lawman Matt Giordano, current executive director of the state oversight board of police officers. Giordano retired from the Phoenix Police Department as a commander.
Another finalist is Malik Aziz, chief of a county police department near Washington, D.C. Aziz spent most of his career with the Dallas Police Department.
The third finalist is Mirtha Ramos, chief of a county police department near Atlanta. Ramos spent most of her career with Miami-Dade police.
The finalists are scheduled to take part in a public forum at 5 p.m. Monday, June 16, at Phoenix City Council chambers. It will be livestreamed on PHX TV and the city's YouTube.
