Central Arizona Shelter Services says it’s in desperate need of water donations and heat relief items for unsheltered people in metro Phoenix.
CASS and Keys to Change held a water drive last weekend, but say they only received a fraction of what is needed for the summer. A press release said that CASS needs about 5,000 water bottles a day to meet demand as it serves about 1,200 people daily.
Those interested in donating can go to cassaz.org and the Thirst Aid Heat Relief Drive website.
In 2024, 608 people died from heat-related causes in Maricopa County, and nearly 4,000 emergency room visits in the county were attributed to heat.
