The U.S. Department of Defense is conducting military training exercises in the Phoenix metro area Monday through Saturday.
In a statement, the Phoenix Police Department said Valley residents may notice low-flying helicopters, simulated gunfire and controlled explosions, mostly after dark.
The police department said these are not emergency situations — the routine training exercises are happening in designated areas with necessary safety precautions in-place, in coordination with local law enforcement.
"We appreciate the support of the leaders, business owners and residents of the Greater Metropolitan Phoenix Area, without which we could not conduct this important training. We apologize in advance for any disruption this training may have on the community," the Phoenix Police Department said in a statement.
The department said the military presence in the Valley is in no way related to immigration or customs enforcement.
