Tempe has closed southbound Mill Avenue between Fifth Street and University Drive to speed up work on an infrastructure project.
The restrictions will last until Aug. 8. It’s called the Downtown Tempe Refresh project and is expected to implement new electrical lines, an irrigation system and more trees. According to Tempe officials, closing the road could shorten the construction schedule by three months.
Despite detours, Mill Avenue businesses will still remain open to visitors.
The city warns the public that additional restrictions can take place on other streets and advises people to check the street schedule on the city’s website. The project’s development timeline could also change due to weather or equipment issues.
