A decades-old child molestation case in Tucson has come full circle, after authorities tracked down the convicted suspect more than 30 years later — in Ukraine. Officials said it took an international effort to bring him in.

Back in 1992, then-33-year-old daycare worker Daniel Brewster was arrested in Tucson and charged with sexually abusing four children under his care — between the ages of 4 and 9.

But after posting bail, Brewster vanished. A jury later convicted him in absentia of 15 counts of child molestation.

Tucson police say Brewster — now 66 — has finally been caught.

Officer Francisco Magos, who's with the Tucson Police Department, said Ukrainian officials arrested him this week, where he’d allegedly been living under a fake name with forged documents.

“It’s just such a relief to be able to give them some sort of a sense of justice, of closure, on what happened 30 years ago," Magos said.

Officials in Ukraine are now working to determine if Brewster harmed any children there before he’s extradited to Arizona to serve his sentence — and possibly face new charges.
