The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning cautioning residents about going outdoors this week in the Phoenix area.
However, monsoon storms may begin approaching the Valley later in the week due to increasing moisture from interior Mexico.
Katherine Berislavich is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
“Wednesday, currently, we’ll see around 10 to 20% chance and then Thursday looks to be up around 30%," Berislavich said.
The National Weather Service says the storms may produce strong winds and blowing dust.
Very hot temperatures will persist through Tuesday with highs today topping 115°F in some areas. Phoenix may set a daily record high today with a forecast high of 116°. Fortunately, cooler weather is expected by mid-week as thunderstorm activity moves into the region. #azwx #cawx pic.twitter.com/TVpucUPDba
