The Arizona Department of Transportation is warning about scam texts using its logo.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is sending out warnings about a new round of scammers. Some people are getting texts for unpaid traffic citations, but this new scam tries to make it seem more official by using the ADOT logo.

Steve Elliott with ADOT said scammers have been an issue for ADOT for several months after an attempted scam claiming people had unpaid tolls on Arizona roads. Other scams included trying to collect unpaid traffic citations.

“Today the change we saw was the Motor Vehicle Division logo on it (scam texts) so we wanted to put out word on it,” Elliott said.

ADOT was made aware of the scam Wednesday morning.

“It’s a copy and paste of the ADOT Motor Vehicle Division logo,” Elliott said. “So it's kind of a subset of the logo, but it is an official logo that appears to have been taken from our website.”

This is not the only indicator this is a scam.

“The main thing is ADOT just isn’t in this business,” he said. “We don’t go around collecting traffic citations.”

Elliott said to beware of wording, these scams use DMV instead of MVD. There are also suspicious links, foreign area codes and poor grammar to indicate it’s fake.

If you have gotten one of these texts he said it is best to delete and ignore the text.
