An Extreme Heat Warning was issued for central and southern Arizona counties on Friday and Saturday.

"We're going to be looking at highs in the Phoenix metro area around 110 to 113 degrees both days," said Ryan Worley with the National Weather Service. "And what that tells us is that, I mean, that's going to be a good 7 to 8 degrees above normal for this time of year."

Worley said overnight temperatures will stay warm, in the lower to mid-80s.

It may seem like just another day in an Arizona summer, but Worley says the public should heed these warnings.

“We haven't had too many episodes so far this summer of temperatures reaching levels such as the ones that we're going to see. So, people need to take it very seriously,” Worley said.

An Extreme Heat Warning is typically issued by the NWS when the temperature is forecast to reach or exceed 110 degrees and remain that way for at least 48 hours.

The public is advised to drink plenty of water and refrain from outdoor activities, such as hiking, during the heat of the day.

The NWS also advises taking breaks in shaded areas or air-conditioned buildings. Or, you can call 211 to be taken to a nearby cooling center.
