The new I-17 flex lanes in Arizona will be open throughout the Labor Day weekend, marking the second holiday weekend that the lanes have been available to drivers.
Arizona Department of Transportation spokesperson Laura Douglas said the flex lanes were available to drivers during the July 4th weekend and the new lanes seem to be easy to navigate.
“Drivers overwhelmingly seem to like and appreciate that they’ve got that extra capacity in an area where it's typically been pretty congested especially on weekends and holiday weekends,” she said.
ADOT says the flex lanes will be open to northbound traffic Friday through Saturday and southbound traffic Sunday through Monday.
According to ADOT, the lanes span about 8 miles and are located next to the southbound lanes along the I-17 between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point.
ADOT also says there are no freeway or highway closures scheduled over the weekend for construction, and the ramps between the eastbound Loop 101 and I-17 are open for the holiday weekend.
