Big improvements — and possibly some interim traffic headaches down the road — are coming to the Loop 303 in the north Valley.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is getting ready to widen a 7-mile stretch of freeway between Lake Pleasant Parkway and I-17. Phase one of the project is already underway, says ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel.
"We're going to provide more room for a second lane for traffic exiting northbound I-17 to get to Loop 303 and Sonoran Desert Drive. That's going to make a big difference by early next year."
Phase 2 and 3 will include the addition of lanes to Loop 303. The plan is to add one lane in each direction, bridges to accommodate a future interchange at 67th Avenue and a new Loop 303/I-17 system interchange.
The entire project is expected to be wrapped up by mid-2028.
