Firefighters respond to light rail and semi-truck collision.

Shuttle buses are being used to move light rail riders through downtown Phoenix after a light rail train and a semi-truck collided in Phoenix, causing a fire on Sunday.

The crash occurred near Washington and 18th streets and led to a power outage on the light rail.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller says firefighters got to the intersection quickly.

“Firefighters did an absolute fabulous job getting on that light rail and evacuating all those passengers. The semi-truck driver was transported to the hospital in stable condition," he said.

Valley Metro says there were no injuries to light rail riders and the operator.

Westbound light rail service is still available at the 12th St. and Jefferson and the 24th St. and Jefferson stations, and shuttle buses will also be used to provide other service downtown.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to Valley Metro.
