A woman from Tucson has been arrested after being accused of making threats on social media that led to Tempe City Council meetings to be conducted remotely.

Tempe police say Kathleen Tierney faces a felony computer tampering charge as well as two disorderly conduct charges which are misdemeanors. Tierney was booked into Tempe city jail but has since been released as charges are pending.

The police department did not provide examples of the threats Tierney has been accused of posting on social media, or on which sites.

Tempe City Council had to cancel its Aug. 28 meeting and held the following two meetings remotely due to the threats. It has returned to meet in person.

Police did not provide any other information and say the investigation is ongoing.
