Besides flooding, last week's massive storm led to popped manhole covers in Phoenix

Friday’s massive rainstorm left some drivers stranded and others to slowly navigate flooded roadways in metro Phoenix. Along the way, manhole covers were popping off because of all the water.

Driving northbound on 32nd Street in Phoenix was no walk in the park last Friday. Much of the roadway was flooded, and near the center lanes, manhole covers were popping up, leaving more water gushing out on the road.

A spokesperson with the city of Phoenix says pressure had built up in underground lines due to the large storm event. There were reports of displaced manhole covers citywide.

The spokesperson went on to say that crews were out over the weekend replacing manhole covers as they were made aware of them.
