A month after a husband killed his wife and then himself at a West Valley long-term care facility, a similar incident has occurred at a senior group home in Mesa.

When officers arrived, they were taken into a bedroom where a 92-year-old husband and his 93-year-old wife were found with gunshot wounds to the head.

The husband died at the scene and was holding the gun. His wife was found with a pulse and taken to a hospital where she later died.

Detectives learned the couple had been married for many years and were living at the care facility. Mesa police say the evidence points to the husband shooting his wife before taking his own life.

This latest incident comes just a month after the Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office said the shooting deaths of two residents at a Sun City West long-term care facility was a murder-suicide.
