The city of Flagstaff is having one of the wettest starts to the water year on record, according to the National Weather service. A water year is a yearlong measurement of surface-water supply.
From the start of October to Wednesday, Nov. 26, meteorologist Jacob Lewandowski says Flagstaff had more than 8 inches of precipitation.
“The winning case is still 1972 which is sitting at 12 inches, but we’re at the second-wettest start," Lewandowski said.
While Flagstaff hasn’t had any record breaking snowfall, nearby Arizona Snowbowl reports more than 60% of its trails and lifts are already open after nearly 5 feet of snow fell in the last week.
