A hiker was forced to spend the night on Camelback Mountain after getting stuck near the closed Echo Canyon trail after dark.
Phoenix Fire Captain JD Lee says crews determined it would have been too dangerous to try to rescue the man at night from his perch. But Lee says they tried to make the uninjured man more comfortable until daybreak.
"We were able to use one of our drones to fly up a cellphone, some water, blankets and food to him while he was up there, and let him know, 'hey, we are gonna get you down, but it’s gonna be a little bit delayed.'"
A technical rescue team was able to extract the man from Camelback Mountain after sunrise Wednesday morning.
