On Tuesday, the Gilbert Town Council took a step toward increasing water rates for the third year in a row.
The town adopted a notice of intent to increase rates starting in 2026.
The council will consider two options. One would raise rates by 25% beginning in 2026. The other would effectively split that with a 14% increase starting in 2026, followed by another 14% increase in 2027.
The town says the increases are due to water scarcity, aging infrastructure and operating costs. The council could make its final decision at its February meeting.
