The Tucson Pride Festival has been cancelled.
The newly appointed board of directors has also decided to dissolve Tucson Pride as an organization, which has been around since 1977.
Organizers of the Tucson Pride Festival, which was scheduled for Feb. 21, announced on social media that it will no longer take place.
It was the third-oldest LGBTQ pride event in the United States, according to the organizers.
In a statement, the board said the decision was not made lightly and that funds received for the festival will be refunded within the next 30 to 90 days.
The statement didn’t specify the reasons for shuttering, but social media posts from October suggest the organization was facing multiple challenges, including financial debt, a shifting political climate, volunteer shortages and issues regarding its non-profit status.
