The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office unveiled a new plane on Wednesday.
The new aircraft is a 2025 Kodiak 900 and will be part of the extraditions division.
The plane replaced an older aircraft with less passenger capacity and shorter range. The Kodiak is capable of carrying eight passengers and two crew, compared to the older plane which could only carry two passengers and two pilots.
The new plane has a range of over 1,100 miles.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Kodiak is more efficient and cheaper to operate, which was a primary factor in their selection.
The new plane cost around $5 million and will primarily be used to pick up and drop off prisoners in and out of state.
The plane's tail number, N1006G, represents the serial number of fallen deputy and pilot Shari Garner, who was assigned to the extraditions division at the time of her passing.
