A small commuter plane that took off from Deer Valley Airport crashed into a north Phoenix neighborhood Wednesday morning.
The Phoenix Fire Department said the plane appeared to have mechanical problems and was trying to return to the airport.
Capt. Todd Keller also said it landed in a backyard after hitting two homes.
“It could have been easily a double-house fire with multiple people involved, but I can tell you right now that we do have three people that are transported in stable condition,” he said.
Hospitalized were an instructor, student pilot and a resident of the first home struck.
Keller said hazardous materials crews were dealing with a fuel leak.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
