Since the assassination of Charlie Kirk last year, conservative groups have been pushing to recognize the Turning Point USA icon throughout Arizona.

A measure that would’ve created a Kirk license plate was vetoed by Gov. Katie Hobbs last week.

Kirk will be getting a permanent tribute this weekend in Lake Havasu City.

The Havasu Memorial Walkway — under the city’s famed London Bridge — features memorial bricks donated by members of the public. A new section being unveiled this weekend is dedicated to Kirk and uses bricks to spell out the word “Freedom.”

Gary Meyers is the Havasu Freedom Foundation president.

“This particular suggestion for Charlie Kirk was overwhelmingly approved by our local population and the outpouring of support and the inpouring of donated bricks verified that it was a pretty good idea," he said.

Meyers says over 100 bricks were donated in Kirk’s name.

And despite Kirk’s legacy of divisive conservative rhetoric, Meyers says the walkway is not political, and has previously honored public servants such as first responders and the Navajo Code Talkers.

“So we have had several special dedications to individuals along the time. And of course this one for Charlie Kirk will just be in that long line of special dedications," he said.
