The 30-day warning period is over for speeders in the city of Phoenix.

Drivers caught by the city’s 17 new speed cameras will now start receiving citations.

During the warning period from Feb. 23 to March 24, more than 70,000 incidents of speeding were captured on camera. Some cameras were also vandalized during the period.

The vandalized camera was one of 17 placed throughout Phoenix in late February, as part of a city safety campaign that aims to alter driver behavior and supplement police traffic enforcement.

The money that is collected via camera citation will be used to fund the Photo Safety Program as well as other projects within the city’s Vision Zero Road Safety Action Plan.

Nine speed cameras are in locations based on high-speed-crash data, which will rotate every six months. Another eight are in school zones, and will rotate on a weekly basis.
