Temporary trailhead closures will begin April 6 at Glendale’s Thunderbird Conservation Park.
The city is planning improvements at the 1,100 acre park that’s popular for hiking, biking, running and horseback riding.
Upgrades to the park include the addition of shade structures, the paving of parking areas and the integration of new native plants.
The project is starting with the closure of the 59th Avenue Trailhead, between Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads. It will remain closed until February.
The 55th Avenue Trailhead will close next in August, followed by the 67th Avenue Trailhead in January.
Despite the construction, the trails themselves will remain open throughout the project.
